Shingle Roof Installation in the Poconos
GAF Master Elite. Licensed PA contractor. One-day installs on most homes.
A new roof is one of the larger jobs you'll do on a house. It should hold for decades, protect everything underneath it, and look right from the street. Ten Point Roofing has installed roofs across Monroe County — Stroudsburg, Effort, East Stroudsburg — and the approach is the same every time: the right materials, installed correctly, with a clean job site when we leave.
What's Included in a Full Roof Replacement
Tear-off
The existing shingles and underlayment come off completely. There is no 'over-shingle' — laying new shingles on top of old ones is a shortcut that traps moisture and creates warranty problems. We remove everything down to the deck.
Deck inspection
Once the deck is exposed, we inspect it for soft spots, rot, and damaged plywood or OSB. If we find sections that need to be replaced, we tell you before we cover it back up. You'll see what we see.
Ice and water shield
At the eaves and in valleys — the areas most vulnerable to ice dams in Poconos winters — we install self-adhering ice and water shield membrane. Pennsylvania code requires three feet at the eaves — a single row. We install two rows, because winters up here are rougher than code assumes.
Synthetic underlayment
Over the rest of the deck, synthetic underlayment provides a secondary water barrier under the shingles. More durable than felt paper and better suited to the temperature swings in the mountains.
GAF shingle installation
Ten Point installs GAF architectural shingles as standard. As a GAF Master Elite contractor, the installation qualifies for GAF's top-tier warranty programs, including the Golden Pledge.
Ridge cap
The ridge cap finishes the peak of the roof — hand-nailed so each piece overlaps the one below it. A properly installed ridge cap is what keeps wind from getting under the peak on a bad night.
Cleanup
We use magnetic rollers to collect nails from the lawn and landscaping. The dumpster is delivered the day of the install and is typically gone by the next morning at the latest. Before we leave, the job site looks like a job site didn't happen there.
Why GAF? And What “Master Elite” Means
GAF Master Elite is a certification held by fewer than 2% of roofing contractors in the country. It requires factory-trained installation practices, verified licensing, and sustained quality standards. It is not the standard “GAF Certified” entry level — the only recognition above it is GAF's President's Club, and what matters for your roof is that Master Elite is the certification that carries GAF's strongest warranties.
The practical difference: Master Elite is the only tier that can offer GAF's Golden Pledge warranty — a 25-year, manufacturer-backed workmanship guarantee. That means if something goes wrong with the installation, GAF stands behind it, not just the contractor. There is also a Silver Pledge 10-year workmanship option for projects where that coverage level is appropriate.
The specific program that applies to your job — Golden Pledge, Silver Pledge, or the applicable material warranty — will be named in writing in your contract before work begins. Ask us to confirm it before you sign.

Common Questions
Do I need to be home during installation?+
You don't need to be there every minute, but someone should be reachable by phone in case we find deck damage or a situation that needs a decision. Most homeowners prefer to be home for the start and end of the day.
What happens if it rains during installation?+
We monitor weather carefully before scheduling. If a job is mid-progress and unexpected weather moves in, we secure the roof with tarps and reschedule the remaining work. We don't leave a roof exposed overnight.
How long does a shingle roof last in the Poconos?+
A properly installed architectural shingle roof, maintained reasonably — gutters clean, no debris accumulation in valleys, attic ventilation adequate — should perform for 30 to 40 years. The shingle itself is a lifetime product: GAF rates its architectural shingles for 50 years. The Poconos is harder on roofs than the mid-Atlantic lowlands due to ice dams, snow load, and freeze-thaw cycling, and good attic ventilation and maintenance are what get you to the top of that range.
What's the difference between architectural and three-tab shingles?+
Three-tab shingles are a single flat layer, thinner and lighter. Architectural shingles are laminated — two layers bonded together — which gives them a dimensional look, better impact resistance, and improved wind ratings. Ten Point installs architectural shingles standard.
